April 2019
A very special greeting to you all! This is my first letter to you after returning to Adelphi from maternity leave—my husband and I welcomed our beautiful baby girl, Gianna, in November.
Over the last several months, we’ve begun the process of learning to be parents, enjoying every minute of watching our daughter grow and thrive. While my days are filled with diapers, baby giggles, and snuggles, I can’t help but wonder what her future holds, where she will go and who she will grow to be.
College is a transformative experience with the power to open doors and uncover hidden paths for students. Our community here at Adelphi places great emphasis on our role in preparing students for their future and delivering added value to their investment in an education—making sure that our students are career-ready and equipped with the tools for success. Recognized as a 2018–2019 College of Distinction for our Office of Career and Professional Development, Adelphi provides students with a personalized education that fully prepares them to excel in their chosen fields.
From the view out my Adelphi office window, I’m often reminded of the endless possibilities for my daughter—her ability to become anything and anyone that she wishes to be. And while I’ll be wishing the time to slow down as she grows into a strong and intelligent woman, I’ll take great comfort in knowing that places like Adelphi University will be waiting, eager and ready to help her achieve her greatest potential.
All my best,

Rap Legend Chuck D Returns to His Alma Mater
|
|
|
Chuck D ’84, ’13 (Hon.), the rap legend known before his chart-topping days as Carlton D. Ridenhour, returned to his alma mater, Adelphi University, on April 15 to discuss his experience as a B.F.A. student at Adelphi, his music career, his critically acclaimed books and his political activism. Chuck D sums it up best: “Everybody feels, everybody wants to express themselves. But you have to learn from somebody. I learned at Adelphi. I came into the school with talent, but I left knowing how to express myself—in art and music.”
