Diversity Summit Focuses on Social Justice and Sustainability
DU’s 17th annual Diversity Summit gathered hundreds of students, faculty, staff, and community members over two exciting days to discuss the intersection of social justice and sustainability—how environmental disaster is often caused and exacerbated by deep social inequalities, and vice versa. Attendees listened to powerful guest speakers and enlightening panel discussions and participated in round tables and workshops to find ways to address challenges of diversity and sustainability.

Project X-ITE Advances Entrepreneurship
In 2016, DU unveiled Project X-ITE (Innovation, Technology and Entrepreneurship), a University-wide collaboration to support the next generation of entrepreneurs. Just one year later, Project X-ITE is doing just that through the Colorado Solutions Summit. Last fall, the Summit brought together start-up companies with a social mission to help them solve their biggest business challenges.

The DU Difference | ||||||||||
What makes a DU education stand out? These four students and alumni are happy to share their experiences:
Andi Schlut ’19, a political science and socio-legal studies major, says her liberal arts education at DU is preparing her for any career she chooses, whether that’s as an elected official, working for the government, or conducting research.
As an international college student, Shiying “Stacey” Xu ’17 says DU’s caring and supportive environment and small classes helped her excel in her English and communication studies majors. She’s now in Columbia University’s MFA Writing Program.
Sherlock Crockett ’19, a first-generation college student, was uneasy about higher education and the related costs. Now into his third year at DU, and after receiving several scholarships for outstanding academic performance, he feels much more confident than he did as an incoming first-year student.
Keegan Kienzle ’15, an international studies major, credits his professors for inspiring and mentoring him and opening doors. He recently was awarded a Fulbright Teaching Assistantship in Berlin, Germany.

DU Student Will Compete in Olympics
DU forward Troy Terry ’19 will compete for the U.S. men’s hockey team at the 2018 Winter Olympics in PyeongChang, South Korea, this month. Troy helped lead the Pioneers to a national championship last year. “It is such a tremendous honor to be selected,” he said. “I have always taken pride in wearing the red, white, and blue, and to have an opportunity to do it at the Olympics is incredible. I will take pride in representing my family, the University of Denver, and the state of Colorado.” Troy joins a long list of DU hockey players who are earning national attention, including alum Jason Zucker, who plays for the Minnesota Wild and raises money for a Minnesota children’s hospital.

We encourage students to attend a Friday@DU session later this month or in March and April. They’ll take part in an information session, a Q&A session with current DU students, a campus tour, and lunch on us.
