Southern Oregon University

Photo I hope your new year is off to a great start. SOU’s Office of Admissions is eager to get started and we’re all looking forward to working with students in 2016. The trajectory SOU has experienced in the last few years is directly related to the relationship we have with college counselors and the relationships we have with other “influencers”. I remain inspired by all that you do and thankful for your support.

Scholarships

This is our fifth year offering a significant expansion to our merit-based scholarships. We offered about 1,000 scholarships to new students last year and expect to offer even more this year. Most scholarships are awarded based on the information provided in the application for admission. However, all applicants are encouraged to submit a SOSA (Southern Online Scholarship Application) at sosa.sou.edu by the March 15 deadline. Adhering to the application priority date of February 15 will be increasingly important for students wishing to pursue scholarships.

SOU also offers the Western Undergraduate Exchange (WUE) Tuition Rate to admitted students from participating states. WUE tuition is equivalent to 150% of the Oregon resident tuition rate and can save students up to $11,000 per year!

The House Experience is a new way for freshmen to fulfill their general education requirements at SOU. The Houses are communities of learning and doing, built on common interests, creativity, and collaboration. Students from all disciplines work together under a common theme to solve real-world issues while completing the fundamentals of the general education curriculum. Our current Houses are: Green House, Social Justice House and Skeptic House.

The Honors College is in its third year at SOU. The Honors College offers high achieving freshmen the opportunity to collaborate with faculty and community mentors on research projects and practical experiences. In addition to Honors general education courses, seminars, and a capstone, Honors College students will receive a substantial tuition discount, saving approximately $4,432 per academic year.

The Accelerated Baccalaureate Degree Program allows students in participating majors to complete their bachelor degree in just three years.

Visit Opportunities

SOU faculty, staff, and students invite prospective students and their families to experience our beautiful, friendly campus and enjoy this dynamic region during one of our preview events.

We host two Preview Days and two Preview Weekends each year, introducing first-year students to the many facets of university life and the people who make SOU a special place. Visitors will tour campus and residence halls, meet with faculty, explore resources and facilities and enjoy campus dining. For Preview Weekends, students have the option to stay overnight in a residence hall.
