Top Ranked Art, Design, and Architecture College in Brooklyn, New York
We are aware of the critical role you play in helping students decide where to apply, and we are grateful to those of you who have sent students to Pratt Institute. If you have sent us students, I sincerely thank you.
Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, New York, is ranked by Business Week as one of the top design schools in the United States and offers majors in virtually every area of art, design, and architecture. With almost all programs ranked among the top five or ten in the country, Pratt attracts the brightest and most talented students in the US. Over 1000 faculty members, most of them practicing professionals, connect students with internships and eventually jobs–87% of undergraduate students are employed within one year of graduation. Payscale, 2014, lists Pratt graduates with the second highest mean starting salaries of all the universities offering art and design.
Some statistics that might interest you, including our student profile, are below my signature.
Pratt offers majors in fine art, fashion design, communications design, interior and industrial design, animation, motion arts, interactive arts, history of art and design, art and design education (teacher preparation), writing, and critical and visual studies, and more. The School of Architecture offers the five- year NAAB accredited architecture degree and a four-year degree in construction management. We also offer an associate’s degree (transfer track) in painting/drawing and graphic design/illustration for students who are not ready or not interested in a four-year program.
The difference between our Bachelor of Fine Art and a Bachelor of Arts is the fact that the studios and professional courses constitute about two-thirds of the BFA curriculum. Students apply for a particular program– art, design, architecture, or writing–and begin studying in that program their first year. (The admissions requirements include evidence of talent in addition to academic ability.)

IDEAL CAMPUS LOCATIONS
Brooklyn (main campus): A 25-acre campus with 35 buildings, some historic, some contemporary, grassy plazas, and residence halls on campus makes Pratt a top choice for students looking for a traditional college experience in the context of an art and design school. Pratt is the only art, design and architecture college in New York City with an actual traditional college campus. All programs but the two-year associate degree programs and both the two and four-year construction management programs are located on the Brooklyn campus.
Manhattan: Pratt’s Manhattan campus is located in the exciting Chelsea area in a restored historic building.
Extension Campus: PrattMWP College of Art and Design is Pratt’s upstate New York extension campus in Utica. It offers the first two years of Pratt’s BFA programs in fine arts, photography, art and design education (teacher preparation), and communications design (graphic design, illustration, advertising art direction). There are many reasons why students choose PrattMWP, including a substantially lower cost. Information is available at www.mwpai.edu
Applying: The deadline for the fall semester is January 5th. November 1st is our non-binding early action deadline. Because we have an enrollment cap with strict limits on certain majors, we strongly encourage students to apply early if Pratt is their first choice. Pratt has a generous merit scholarship program; all applicants are considered.
