PIRATE PRESS- WHAT’S NEW AT SOUTHWESTERN?
MESSAGE FROM THE VICE PRESIDENT
Welcome to the 2018–19 academic year!
I would like to take this moment to introduce myself as the new Vice President of Strategic Recruitment and Enrollment. Some of you may know me or recognize my name from one of my previous stops at Drake, La Salle, Iona or St. Lawrence. If you are wondering about Christine, I am happy to say that she is still with us at SU as Dean of Admission.
We are excited that 445 first-year students and 46 transfers have chosen to join our community this fall making this our second largest class of new students ever. Through our collaboration, Southwestern will welcome engaged learners who are most interested in a strong liberal arts experience. In this class of students, we find scholars, artists, leaders, athletes, scouts, volunteers, and a hosts of other talents that will shape our community in amazing ways. Your guidance, recommendations, invitations to visit your campus, and other partnerships, allow us to recruit the right-fit student, and we thank you for this partnership. We believe that together we can realize our most prized goals of engaging minds and transforming lives.
Pirate Press, our quarterly newsletter for counseling colleagues, will feature important updates and insights about Southwestern University. Please remember that our SAT policy changed last year, which we hoped alleviated stress and minimized financial elements of the college process for your students. Southwestern continues to think of ways to make the admission process student friendly and, hopefully, make the college search process easier for everyone.
As always, if there is a way our team can support YOUR students, please do not hesitate to contact us. We look forward to another great year in helping students find the right fit!

Get to Know Georgetown, Texas
A large part of a student’s college life is the community they live in. Southwestern has been fortunate to call the City of Georgetown (with the most beautiful town square in Texas) home for over one hundred years. Get to know more about Georgetown through the eyes of Aransas Haley ’21.
Meet your Southwestern Representative
Southwestern is community oriented and truly sees the campus as a home-away-from-home for four years. The staff who work in the admission office are ready to help each student on their journey through the college choice process.
The staff is split regionally, and most carry a part of the state of Texas as well as other areas around the globe. Each staff member is excited to connect with you and your students through digital communication, phone, or in person when visiting your area. If you are curious if SU will be near you this fall, please reach out to your personal contact based on the location of your school or practice.
Southwestern is excited to partner with you to get your students invested in their college search. One of the best ways to do that is to have them engage in an on-campus experience and see themselves at their school of choice (we’re always rooting for SU).
We are open and ready for you and your students to visit independently during the week, including overnight and classroom experiences, (schedule today!). In addition, we will host a large-scale visit program this fall as well as smaller-scale programs on select Saturdays:
Please feel free to share these visit opportunities with your campus community!
