Location Matters

Our historic, park-like campus is in Los Angeles, tucked between Eagle Rock and Highland Park, two neighborhoods that reflect the city’s eclectic nature. We’re idyllically urban–our campus defies the concrete stereotype of a college in a city.

An Oxy liberal arts education knows no geographic boundaries. Our location serves as a springboard for putting theory into practice and ideas into perspective. This may mean diving in the Pacific to do marine research, interning at the Jet Propulsion Lab in Pasadena, volunteering during the Campaign Semester in Missouri, living in Manhattan at our Kahane UN Program, or studying abroad in Ghana. At its core, an Oxy education demands participation, be it on campus or thousands of miles away.

Academic Opportunities

Learning and knowing are rooted in doing. Oxy faculty and students take this to heart through a focus on experiential learning. Whether it’s in an Organizational Psychology course that helps to restructure the Downtown Women’s Shelter, our Urban and Environmental Policy students that research food deserts in Los Angeles, to a Critical Theory and Social Justice course that’s paired with a community organization to contextualize Oxy’s mission for diversity and equity over the past 60 years, our students apply the knowledge they have to better understand the world in which they live.

Life Outside the Classroom

Whether you’re a social activist with a few hours to spare, a dancer waiting to show the world your moves, an aspiring yogi, or a budding birdwatcher, there’s something for every student at Oxy.

The largest of our 100+ clubs is Dance Production, affectionately known as Dance Pro by our students. No experience necessary and each student who auditions is guaranteed a spot in at least one number. More than 200 students regularly participate in this dance phenomenon to a sold out Thorne Hall.

Musically inclined students can host a radio show on KOXY, our student run radio station, or produce a record with RAW Records, a student- run record label with a fully operating recording studio.

Former and aspiring athletes and faculty alike can compete in weekly intramural games. Those who want to serve the community can volunteer though Peer Health Exchange to teach workshops in public high schools. We want you to find your place(s) on campus, in the neighborhood, and beyond.
